Your Kitchen is A Mess, But There is Still Hope: 5 Tips to Effectively Organize Your Kitchen

The kitchen is the central nervous system of your home; friends gather and eat (hopefully delicious) meals here. However, the kitchen can also serve as a no-man’s land for every member of the household’s stuff. As such, the kitchen is highly susceptible to becoming a cluttered mess – this detracts from the maximum value can you receive from one of the most important rooms in your house.  This article will briefly discuss small tricks you can utilize to organize, and get the most out of your kitchen.

Boxes Are Your Friend

Like most things in life, we tend to overlook the value of the little things. In this case, the little things consist of baskets, crates, boxes, and the like. Use boxes to organize your  napkins, knick-knacks, and glasses. Further, you can use wooden boxes on their sides as additional shelf space – it also looks pretty snazzy. Don’t forget that organizing items vertically adds to the clean, open, appearance of your kitchen; vertical organization is extremely efficient when done right.

Create a Nerve Center Within Your Nerve Center

It may seem like common sense, but one look at your friends’ kitchens will tell you it’s not, but you should have a single area for storing items that are unrelated to the creation, and consumption, of food. Keys, mail, and newspapers are some of the top offenders when it comes to kitchen clutter; this can be avoided easily.

Combine Identical Products, and Label Them

As humans, we are creatures of habit. What this means is you probably have at least 2 containers of the same item; one opened, and one unopened. Combining the two into a large clear jar with the appropriate label helps reduce clutter and looks good on its own to boot.

Be Efficient with Use of Storage Space

Building off (3), you can maximize your storage space with efficient planning. Where there were two boxes of cereal, now there is a single jar (ideally next to a bunch of other labeled jars). Don’t stop there though, the smooth surface on the back of the cabinet door is a great place to add hooks and magnetic strips; you paid for every inch of that house, make every inch of your house work for you.

The Purge 20: The Cabinet

You had to know this was coming, since we’ve been discussing efficiency. Everyone has several items in their cabinet that they will never use. Since it will never be used, what is it even doing there? If you want to reduce clutter, you should probably throw out useless clutter.  Mismatched glassware, plates, utensils, and the like should all be removed.

At the Chernov Team we take pride in our ability to help people with all things related to real estate. Whether you just want to improve the efficiency of your kitchen for yourself, or if you want to improve your kitchen’s efficiency for the purpose of selling your home, these tips will help you accomplish the goal. If you are trying to sell your home, the state of your kitchen can have a profound impact on whether a sale actually occurs, and what price you can sell your home for. Do yourself a favor, organize that kitchen!
