Trends In Exterior Design: “Let’s Make Your House Pop”

As a general rule, it’s what’s on the inside that counts – this doesn’t mean that what’s on the outside is meaningless though. It can be overwhelming to begin a project like revamping the exterior of your home; you only get one chance at a first impression, and there are so many options! This article will briefly discuss the current trends in exterior design, so you don’t have to guess and paint the exterior of your home a deep purple (sure, people will recognize your home… but sometimes that isn’t a good thing).

(1) SEE YOUR HOUSE IN SEA BLUE

In the past, keeping it neutral was the way to go, but that’s the past for a reason. If you aren’t keen on going big and going home, sea blue colors can be a good middle ground. Like most colors, there are an infinite number of gradations of blue; whichever color you settle on will provide a serene vibe to the exterior of your home.

(2) ONCE YOU GO BLACK, YOU’LL NEVER GO BACK

While painting the exterior of your home black may seem like a bold move, it’s a bold move that is picking up steam. Many A-list celebrities (including Madonna and Calvin Klein), and there’s a good reason – you’ve got to be the kind of person who sets design trends to paint the exterior of your home black. Make no mistake, taking this path will let your neighbors know that you don’t follow their lead, they follow yours. An all black exterior evinces thoughts of contemporary architecture and sophistication that most people can only imagine… until they see your house, of course.

(3) GOING WITH TAUPE IS A TOP CHOICE

Gray is very 2000-and-late, but Taupe is looking to make an appearance over the next few years; a perfect blend of gray and dark brown. Don’t jump on this trend too quickly however, as your homes positioning in relation to the amount of sunlight it gets can have unexpected results on its appearance at various times of day.

(4) SPANISH MOSS TO LOOK LIKE A NATURE-LOVING BOSS

Most homes in the Encino, Sherman Oaks, and Studio City areas scream suburbs, but you can transform your standard city-home into a retreat-esque residence simply by utilizing Spanish moss; because it has all the brown and green tones of nature, choosing this exterior for your home can make it stand out in a sea of drab gray homes.
