In our two previous articles, we have discussed tips to stay safe from COVID-19 prior to moving, and on moving day. Today we will briefly discuss tips for avoiding COVID-19 after you have moved. While it is likely that everyone is sick of hearing about this virus, the fact remains that it is serious and should be treated as such. In the future, when we have a better understanding of what has happened, we will look back and realize that what we did may have been overkill, but for now it is important that we all do our part to slow the spread of the virus in accordance with the best information we have available.
After you have moved, and the movers have left, wipe down all furniture and boxes. As you are aware, some carriers are asymptomatic; so even companies doing their due diligence could miss an asymptomatic employee. It may seem excessive, and we know the last thing you want to do after a long day of moving is clean, but health and safety are of the utmost importance right now.
This may seem like a no brainer, but if you’re sick when moving day comes around you should reschedule the move until you are feeling better. This may cost you a deposit fee (though most moving contracts are non-binding until they’ve actually moved your stuff – a condition precedent if you will) and be a massive inconvenience, but we have an obligation to avoid getting other people sick. It is best to err on the side of caution. Given the current situation, it wouldn’t hurt to simply ask moving companies what their cancellation policies are in advance.
At the end of your move remember, if you have to spend the majority of this time inside, at least you get to do it in your brand new home!
At the Chernov Team we understand that knowledge is power, and knowledge of how to minimize the risks of moving during a pandemic is powerful knowledge indeed. At the Chernov Team we know that whoever comes to the table most prepared leaves with the most, and the Chernov Team always leaves with the most.
