Spending time with your family is important, especially in the go-go lifestyle that defines life in Los Angeles. Below, we have compiled a list of three museums that are well worth taking some time with your family to visit.
- La Brea Tar Pits and Museum
Nearly 150 years ago, several amateur paleontologists uncovered the remains of animals in the pits of Rancho La Brea. To this date, roughly 3.5 million fossils have been uncovered from those pits, and several of those fossils can be viewed at the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. There are a plethora of exhibits and sights to see, and at the end of the day, you and your children may very well have learned things you did not know prior to visiting. That sounds like a productive day out, and a much-needed break from the everyday life of the city.
- Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum (“NHM”) carries the title of the first museum building in Los Angeles, having opened in 1913 Exposition Park. The NHM’s collection boasts nearly 35 million items and is second in collection size only to the Smithsonian.
Be forewarned, that this is a massive location and you should plan the attractions you intend to see on your visit.
- MOCA Grand Ave
The Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (“MOCA”) at Grand Ave. is the primary branch of MOCA, and contains thousands of pieces of art created since 1940 through the present. Spend an entire day enjoying modern pieces of artwork from artists who have not yet achieved the fame of Picasso or Da Vinci but may rise to that level in the future. It costs very little to gain admission (but Thursdays between 5 and 8 pm it’s free), but the value you gain from your experience is priceless.
