Pet-Friendly Home Improvements: A Smart Investment

We’ve been talking about COVID-19 a lot lately, and we think it’s time to talk about something a little more pleasant; pets. Our furry friends make our lives better and we do our best to make their lives better in return. This becomes even more apparent when people with pets look for homes.
According to a Realtor.com survey, 95% of those asked stated that they considered their pets when picking the right home. Here’s a fun fact, approximately 82% of those surveyed were pet owners, 61% owned dogs, 45% owned cats, 12% owned fish, and 9% owned birds. If you’re looking at those numbers and thinking, “hey, those numbers don’t add up,” some people have multiple pets that aren’t dogs.
People with pets look for different things in homes. Of those surveyed, 38% said that a home needed to have a big yard for their pets. 29% said any outdoor space would be sufficient. 24% felt a garage was crucial, 22% believed dog runs were a must have, and 20% stated that indoor square footage was a major factor.  Not so surprisingly, 68% of pet owners stated they would not purchase a dream home if it was bad for their pets.
Finally, 87% of dog owners (and cats) claim the needs of their pets are extremely important to them. 89% or bird owners, 79% of rodent owners, and 74% of horse owners feel their pets’ needs are incredibly important in picking a new home. Oddly, 85% of fish owners feel the same way.
Given the fact that a large number of people own pets, and given the fact that the vast majority of those pet owners take their pets’ needs very seriously, it would be prudent to consider pet-friendly options when making decisions about where to allocate resources for home improvement projects.
