Lavender Oil & Your Home

We’ve probably all heard about lavender oil, but not many of us actually use it. Once upon a time, this could be chalked up to ignorance of lavender oil’s uses, but not after today!

Naturally, lavender oil can be used to combat odors – this is the most obvious use. The smell of aerosol air freshener can be nauseating – sure it’s better than the smell of a stinky bathroom, but not by a whole lot. Try mixing some lavender oil with water in a spray bottle and see how much better your bathroom can actually smell; call me old fashioned, but I don’t want my bathroom to smell the same as McDonald’s. For a pro tip, drop one or two drops of lavender oil on a new toilet paper roll, and enjoy lavender for however long your roll lasts.

If you have pets, you know your carpets are the primary victims of the stinky pet smell. To combat this odor, consider mixing eight drops of lavender oil with a half-cup of baking soda. Sprinkle it on your carpet, vacuum, and bye-bye smells! Alternatively, you can put lavender drops on a small piece of paper, vacuum it up, and allow your vacuum to spread the wonderful lavender scent.

Want to have the nicest smelling clothing in the room? Add two drops of lavender oil to a dryer sheet, and watch the magic happen. Since we like learning here at the Chernov Team, did you know that the word lavender is derived from “lavare,” which is Latin for “to wash?” Go back to Lavender’s roots and use it for washing everything!

Finally, stale air shouldn’t be a thing, especially when you’re showing your home to potential buyers. To combat this, place two drops of lavender oil per cotton ball and put those bad boys in rooms with poor air flow and circulation. Your nose will thank you.

At the Chernov Team we understand that knowledge is power. While knowledge of how to make the best use of lavender oils may not directly make you money, you can’t really put a price tag on knowledge that will make your home more enjoyable to you and any potential Buyers. At the Chernov Team we know that whoever comes to the table most prepared leaves with the most, and the Chernov Team always leaves the table with the most.
