Bedroom No-Nos if You Want to Sell Your Home

It’s happened more times than you’d think, and it’s probably happened to someone you know; prospective buyers are interested in purchasing your house and lose their gusto after viewing your bedroom. It’s only natural to assume that your bedroom is just fine, provided you clean everything up and make the bed – you sleep there every night after all. The reality is that your bedroom is probably not acceptable to show to prospective buyers. The bottom line is if you are trying to sell your home, it might be best to allow your agent to stage your bedroom and just sleep in that room for a while. This article will briefly discuss a few major bedroom issues that turn buyers off.

Mittens is your baby, we get that. We also understand why you’d want your cat’s litterbox nearby, he spends all his time on your bed getting in the way of things anyways right? It’s an accepted reality that people tend to adapt to their surroundings, dulling certain stimuli over time, stimuli like smell. Sure, it doesn’t smell like cat poop to you, but for someone who doesn’t live in the same room their cat empties their bowels, the odor is overwhelming. Pro-tip: get a dog, they’re way better.

We get it, last Valentine’s day you killed it; you took some tasteful nudes in sexy poses for your significant other. Its’ your bedroom you thought, why not put them up – who doesn’t love celebrating the beauty of the person they love… prospective buyers, that’s who! Don’t forget to put those badboys away, save it for your next bedroom.

Keeping in line with (2), we also get that there are many ways to spice things up the bedroom, most of them fantastic; even though we all know that, we don’t want to see it. Let’s be clear, it’s not like people are leaving handcuffs and blindfolds in the middle of their bed for prospective buyers to see; they are “hidden” somewhere that people accidentally stumble over (pun intended for the imagery). Just box them up and bring them out when the time calls for it, it takes away from the mood, but we’re sure you’d rather sell your house.

At the Chernov Team we understand that knowledge is power, and that is particularly true when it comes to avoiding things that turn prospective buyers off (pun intended again because of (2) and (3)); it’s best to keep your intimacy between you and your significant other (it’s not the 70s anymore). At the Chernov Team we understand that whoever comes to the table most prepared leaves with the most, and the Chernov Team always leaves the table with the most.
